Looking for some fun ideas to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with your kids? Here are nine ideas!

  1. Play hot potato. What better way to celebrate this Irish holiday? Start some music, have kids pass around a spud, and pause the music at random. Whoever’s caught holding the potato is out. Keep playing until there is one champion remaining.
  2. Rainbow crayon melting. Lots of fun, and super simple. You will need crayons, a hot glue gun, a canvas, a blow dryer, and some sort of drop cloth. Find a how-to video here.
  3. Create St. Patrick’s Day necklaces. All you need are strings and St. Patty’s themed beads (think shades of green, gold, and tiny shamrocks).
  4. Rainbow scavenger hunt. Create a rainbow in your living room by having the kids collect different colored objects from around the house. Sort the objects into color groups, then arrange the objects into arches. (Remember Roy G. Biv)
  5. Create a rainbow. Use a prism to create your own rainbow.
  6. Make rainbow jello. Buy boxes of jello in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Prepare red jello according to package directions and pour evenly between 6 clear glass or plastic cups. Refrigerate jello for several hours until completely firm. Prepare orange jello according to package directions, then careful pour orange jello on top of red jello to create a second layer. After allowing this layer to cool in the refrigerator and repeat procedure with yellow, green, blue, and purple jello.
  7. Learn how to do the Irish Jig. See a how-to video here.
  8. Play hide the gold. Hide a bunch of gold coins around the house and let kids collect as many as they can find.
  9. St. Patrick’s Day parade. Research local options online.
